NB RGB Gas Spring Dual Monitor Arm Review

The gas-spring motion is wonderfully smooth for height adjustment, but the RGB lighting will be hit-or-miss depending on your taste.

Pros

  • The gas spring makes one-handed height adjustment smooth
  • Up to 500mm of lift makes switching between sitting and standing easy
  • Supports both clamp and grommet mounting, so most desks work
  • Cables route through the arm, keeping the desk tidy

Cons

  • RGB brightness is strong enough to be distracting in a dark room
  • Changing RGB patterns without the app is a hassle
  • Fully extending both arms eats up a lot of desk depth

Design & Finish

A matte dark gray body with blue silicone grip accents. The base has a built-in RGB lighting ring — a nice touch if you're into desk setups, but it might feel like overkill if you prefer something minimal. Thankfully, the light can be fully switched off with a button.

Setup & Usage

Desks up to 6cm thick can use the clamp mount; anything thicker, or desks you can't drill into, can use the grommet mount instead. Installation itself took about 20 minutes with a single hex key, and attaching the monitors was easy as long as they met the VESA spec. The initial setup requires turning a spring-tension screw to match your monitor's weight — after a few adjustments per the manual, the arm held its position exactly where I let go.

Performance / Real-World Testing

The gas spring's smoothness is the headline feature. Push with one finger and the monitor glides up, stopping exactly where you want. Since I switch between working from home and the office and adjust monitor height often, this was the most satisfying part of the whole thing. Rotation, tilt, and swivel are all smooth too, making portrait mode an easy switch.

The RGB lighting, on the other hand, requires the companion app for fine-grained pattern and color control, and the app itself wasn't very intuitive — it took a while to find the right settings at first.

Stability, Cable Management & Other Details

Even with two 27-inch monitors fully extended, I didn't notice any sagging or wobble. That said, fully extending the arms eats up a good chunk of desk depth, so if your desk is under 120cm wide, check your clearance beforehand. Cables route through internal channels in the arm, and the desk looked noticeably cleaner once everything was tucked away.

Usage Timeline

First few days

Condition: Excellent
  • No sagging in a wobble test after clamp installation
  • Spring tension had plenty of headroom even with two 27in monitors attached

2 weeks in

Condition: Excellent
  • No loss of spring resistance despite adjusting height daily with a standing desk
  • Dimmed RGB to minimum and got used to it for nighttime use

1 month in

Condition: Good
  • A very slight play detected in the swivel joint, but no impact on use
  • One cable clip loosened and needed reseating
